May 1

This Friday I am pulling the curtain off of my most recent project. It's not anything gigantic, it's more a slow burner, but over the next few weeks I hope it to grow into something very exciting.

All that to say, that's where I've been the last few days and weeks, preparing for what I hope will be something fun to see develop and a fulfillment of an idea I've had to do for sometime.

:: Operation Wolf Suit :: the codename will be dropped this Friday in favor of the real name of the "operation." Thanks for sticking around and I hope you'll check back.

Illustration Friday : "Theater"

I enjoy staging pieces like a set. I like to compose them in a way that would, I hope, translate well to theater. I don't really have any ambitions for being a stage designer but I appreciate the art.

I'd like to see a production of this.

St. George's Day

"There is a forgotten, nay almost forbidden word,
which means more to me than any other.
That word is England." - Sir Winston Churchill

April 23, St. George's Day. On this day, the traditionally accepted date of Saint George's death in 303 A.D, I give you two pieces of my own, and several inspiring works by various artists through-out the ages.

:: Operation Wolf Suit :: / update

Hey everyone, confused by the title of this post? I hope not, but here's a link to correct that confusion, should you be experiencing any. Operation Wolf Suit drops May 1, and I've been working the last few weeks worth of evenings towards that goal, it'll also have it's real name then. There's still a few things to get in order but I'm very pleased with the work so far.

Work progresses on my "moving pictures" (you know, Project Gondola) I've had to pause yet again the Gondola piece because of client work but I'll take the work. The venerable Danny McNight has been AfterEffects, motion-graphicing the heck out of my second moving picture, based on my elusive The Blue Goblet series. Look for that to be completed in the next couple weeks.

I've also got a third one in development, I'm partnering with the powerful Josh Burton to create an animated Jack and Inar short. Here's a little Inar head drawing :

All eyes look to the West as we prepare for Comic-Con in San Diego this July. We're still arranging our flight plans and ironing some details but Justin and I will be there -- and with a montrous booth. 10 x 10!

Working like mad to make 2009 cool for you,
Cory

Twitter

I have one good reason and a million stupid ones for getting a Twitter. The one good one is that our Marketing Director at work runs the Portland one and every time he posts a link to my blog I get on average 50 more people visiting a day. That's good math to me.

The million stupid ones? -- do you really want to know that I beat Super Mario Bros. 3 the other night? Or that I'm crazy excited for the new Wolverine movie? That I liked the music in trailer for Wolverine so much that I bought the score to the unrelated film they pulled the music from? Because odds are that's what I'd Twitter about.

So! If you like, you can follow me on Twitter. I set up a little thing over on the side bar that'll update with whatever nonsense I put there. If you need to, you can tape a little piece of paper over it if you don't want to read about how badly I trounced Bowser.

I just wish the internet had tougher names for things, twitter... etsy... light night rains? ... they just don't shout manliness do they.

operations/projects

It occurred to me the other day how needlessly secretive most code names are. It struck me as hilarious, so, I've codenamed all of my projects for the next couple months. The next codename on the radar is :: Operation Wolf Suit :: which is running concurrently with Project Gondola and Project Daylight. Operations differ from projects insofar as operations are slightly more involved that projects. That's about as far as I've gotten with making up a specific nomenclature for this.

Primary ignition has commenced on Wolf Suit. Project Gondola (which has the least inspired name of the current work) has been paused the last two days due to client work. Project Daylight is in the preliminary planning stages and will be dropped on the San Diego Comic-Con this July.

Needlessly secretive, yes, but supremely important? Probably not, but time will tell.

Here's a peek at Project Gondola, whose lackluster codename will become pretty un-coded in a moment here,

Textured, finishedUntextured, WIP

Have you see the "moving picture" over on the Portland site? The Mad Bull! You can see some of the development work over on Justin's blog.

I have three of these "moving pictures" that are in various stages of development. This is the third one.

Ticket : sold out.

Like the title reads : Ticket is sold out. Just wanted to thank you guys for supporting the book!

I suppose there's always the vague possibility we might run a second edition at some indefinite point in the future but until that day I suppose you'll have to console yourself with this video :

Thank you all again.

Grimm and Other Folk Tales : The Quotes

One of the central ideas of my show was that I wanted to provide an experience for people. I wanted whoever came to see the show to be able to leave with a richer understanding of art, the process, and of the stories themselves.

One of the ways I tried to do this was through the use of quotes by people who had a much better grasp of the English language. With out further ado, here are the pieces paired with the quotes I picked.

Prints are available! Visit my Etsy store! It's under construction at the moment, I'll be adding more to it but I've got all of the matted 8 x 10 prints available. The prints turned out perfect and I couldn't be more pleased with the quality. They were the best seller of opening night. We sold out quickly of several but more are on the way!

Grimm and Other Folk Tales : The Event

Here are some photographs of the event. We had a fantastic turn out.

And all of the final, framed pieces with the supplemental materials on either side.

My sister-in-law Annie took some photographs of the pieces Saturday afternoon and I hopped in a couple. She said something weird and made me laugh. I don't remember what she said.
